Thoughts on prayer and more . . . A FB friend posted his thoughts centered on prayer and his post reads: “In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. Sometimes my prayer was Help me. Sometimes a prayer was Thank you. What Ive discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because I know my support, my help, is just a prayer. I didnt get to were IAM with out him by my side.” It’s so irresistible for me to let go without putting my own spin . . . I love this quote by Marie Henry Beyle “One can acquire everything in solitude except character.” “In a busy, fast paced world, many individuals enjoy their alone time. In times of solitude, we may pray, reflect, or sit and absorb all that our life is about. In those times of solitude, we may even find the energy and attitude we need to embrace everyday challenges. According to Marie Beyle, character is acquired when we’re doing the everyday things of life. The values and principles we live by in the presence of others shows what kind of people we really are. Solitude is needed at times, but so is character.” I find solace when I pray, I talked to my God who listens to me. I don’t ask for the impossible but ask for something reasonable. Somehow prayer with no action is defeating the purpose of asking your God. We petition for something but he expects us to work for it. Here is an article I wrote on 2011 . . . As we all know and learned early on in life is “Faith is believing what you cannot see.” Prayer has to come from within and getting to know what constitutes as a good prayer is between you and God. You have to pray with your whole heart and mean what you say. Dont feel like you have to be ashamed of what it can do. It is up to you as the individual to take prayer and use it in the way that you know how. Once you have learned the power of what prayer can do, sit back and watch how God works. After that you will not question your faith. This can be summed up in Psalm 91 . . . Psalm 91 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowlers snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you make the Most High your dwelling-- even the LORD, who is my refuge—then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me, “says the LORD,”I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation” Here is one essay to read timely enough for the crisis we are facing and appropriately titled - A world in confusion. . . “If we can locate the stillness at the center of our hearts, we can find composure in almost any situation. People who maintain their sense of calm when things around them are in a state of flux and confusion are always wonderful to be around. We feel calmer just being near them, as if they have activated our own sense of inner peace. From them we learn that we can be calm, even when everything around us is in turmoil, because we know that no matter what happens, this inner sense of calm will help us to function well. Often, times of confusion are the times that enable us to find that part of ourselves that knows how to cope, and how to be a light to others in the storm. If we allow ourselves to be thrown off balance by every piece of disturbing news that comes our way, we may be relying too much on our emotions. On the other hand, our thoughts may also be unreliable at times like these, as they chatter on endlessly about what might happen next. If our feelings and thoughts activate one another in a hectic way, then we become caught up in the confusion that surrounds us. However, if we can locate the stillness at the center of our hearts, we can find composure in almost any situation. In addition, we provide a safe place for our friends and family, who are also prone to taking on the confusion of a world in flux. It helps to remember that we don’t need to completely understand what’s happening right now, nor do we need to be able to predict the future. Most of us just want to find our way to being at peace with whatever happens, and we can find this peace inside. Cultivating our inner clarity with meditation, journaling, and reading words that inspire us, will lead us to that place inside us that’s already there, just waiting.” Are you open to new possibilities? All the people we call ‘geniuses’ are men and women who somehow escaped having to put that curious, wondering child in themselves to sleep. ~ Barbara Sher ~ How willing are you to learn something new? How open are you to new perspectives? Only when we’re open can we really hear what’s being said or really see what’s happening or really experience the moment. Openness demands that we be willing to move to places we’ve never been before. It asks us to continually challenge the foundations of our belief systems so we can test out new ideas. And to do that, we need to accept insecurity. The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ~ Alvin Toffler ~ On a day like Friday, the normal phrase you hear around you is TGIF . . . be inspired with the thoughts below: “Even while life throws you frustration and disappointment, you can quietly and steadily achieve. Even when you cannot make a lot of progress, you can make a little progress. That small progress adds up, day after day. Soon it becomes much more valuable than anything you could accomplish in a single effort. Sure, some things can be accomplished in a burst of determined effort. However, the most valuable achievements take time, with one small, yet effective action after another. Determination is a powerful force that can compel you in an intimately meaningful way to take action. And determination becomes much more powerful when you’re able to spread it over long periods of time. The longer you can maintain your determination, the higher the level of achievement you’ll be able to reach. It’s great to be determined, and even more powerful when you can stay determined. Keep your determination alive and growing by reminding yourself again and again of why it’s important to you. Keep your actions coming by continuing to fuel them with the power of positive determination.” Leaving behind some inspiring quotes how to overcome adversity “Do not fear the winds of adversity. Remember: A kite rises against the wind rather than with it.” Each difficult moment has the potential to open my eyes and open my heart. ~ Myla Kabat-Zinn Enthusiasm releases the drive to carry you over obstacles and adds significance to all you do. ~ Norman Vincent Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit. ~ Napoleon Hill ~ Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time. ~ Og Mandino Every trial endured and we~athered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before. ~ James Buckham ~ Cheers for Friday!
