Whether or not portraying a CHARACTER of a geisha is a stereotypical caricature is relevant to the discussion and people need to consider the perspectives of Asian people. Performing is about playing a role, the same as men will dress as women for comedy, as people will portray a variety of characters. When you are a member of a class of people who are entitled and have always had the privilege of doing whatever you please without regard to the feelings of the oppressed class, you MUST develop a sensibility toward them and respect them UNLESS of course you want to remain an ignorant DUMBF living in your own shallow, mindlessly destructive, selfish private Idaho. How we depict each other matters. Wrap your head around it. We can have fun and dress up as long as the joke and entertainment is inclusive and not just to amuse the entitled group. I am always speaking out against blackface and redface and racist stereotype dressing. This is not yellowface as she is not wearing makeup to make her eyes and face look different, like the jasckasses do when they wear war paint and blackface. She is also allegedly dressed as a geisha girl, uh yea not really a SACRED headdress or ceremonial wear. As a performer, I have worn many costumes depicting characters over decades. There is a line you dont cross. Wearing fashion or historical clothing or culturally inspired clothing is all in your intent. Its great to wear tribal inspired clothing like fringe, Apache style headbands, mocs, African or whatever motifs as long as you dont cross that line, like the idiots like Paris Hilton and the fashionistas do wearing headresses down runways making a mockery of our people and flaunting their ignorant entitled asses. If Asian people feel this is not cool then why the F cant people respect that? Whats the difference between white people and yogurt? Yogurt has its own culture.
