Thousands flock to San Pablo Citys 20th Coconut Festival By Robert Maico SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna, Jan. 13 (PNA) -- A multitude of people gathered around the city plaza to witness the highlight of San Pablo City’s 20th Coconut Festival Celebration today, Tuesday, with the theme: “Dalawang Dekada ng Saya, Sigla at Makulay na Kultura sa Pista ng Niyog sa Lungsod ng Pitong Lawa.” The afternoon event started with the presentation of contestants vying for the title of “Coco Carnival Queen”, clad in their costumes made of coconut materials manifesting the creativity of local designers. The judges include famous personalities such as fashion designer Rene Salud, hair stylist James Cooper (who hails from San Pablo City), showbiz personality Soxy Topacio, 2013 Philippines Miss International Bea Santiago and Mrs. Claudette A. Amante, wife of Mayor Loreto Amante. Also visible were foreign tourists grouped in a separate place to get a better view of the activities. Representative of the 3rd District of Laguna, Sol Aragones, who hails from San Pablo City, congratulated the organizers of the festivities led by Mayor Amante. She said that the festivities showcase the various farm products and at the same time promote other tourist attractions in the district. Adding to the festive atmosphere at the event was the Street Dancing Competition with participants coming from seven elementary schools, nine high schools and one college in the city, as well as physically challenged students. A parade was held participated in by beautifully decorated floats followed by the street dancing participants. San Pablo City is the place of the famous Seven Lakes.
