Thousands of Dollars in Funding Announced for Elk Valley Projects Three Elk Valley projects have received a big boost after being awarded funding through the Elk Valley Community Directed Funds (EVCDF) Program. ““Earlier this year the Elk Valley Community Directed Funds Program adopted its Community Priorities Plan, which identifies ten priorities,” explains EVCDF Committee Chair Mary Giuliano. “The goal of the program is to support projects that meet one or more of these priorities and demonstrate valley-wide benefits. We are proud to support these three initiatives and encouraged to see other groups coming forward seeking funding.” The three projects that the Committee has announced it will be funding include: • East Kootenay Brain Injury Association – Community/Valley-Wide Wide Garage Sale ($15,000) • Fernie Nordic Society – trail linkage project from Fernie Alpine Resort to City of Fernie ($17,000) • Elk Valley Economic Initiative – to help advance the development of valley-wide economic development projects ($30,000/year for 3 years) Groups and non-profit organizations in the Elk Valley with projects ideas are invited to consult the RDEK website at rdek.ca to learn more about the Elk Valley Community Directed Funds Program, consult the Community Priorities Plan, and review the Project Information Form. The EVCDF Committee is made up of four local elected officials and four members of the public and is a standing committee of the Regional District of East Kootenay responsible for the EVCDF Program. The RDEK gratefully acknowledges the financial support of Columbia Basin Trust which supports efforts and ideas of the people of the Columbia Basin.
