Thousands of firefighters from around the globe traveled to College Station, Texas, this month to participate in the nation’s premier fire training schools at the world’s largest, live-fueled fire training facility: Brayton Fire Training Field. Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is at the helm of the fire training industry by featuring a new chemical refinery fire training facility, a structural burn complex, a liquefied natural gas training facility and more. Where does Leander Fire Department fit in to all of this? We have skilled firefighters that attend to be instructors each year. We also regularly send our paid and volunteer firefighters for training so that they continue to brush up on their skills to keep our community safe in unexpected situations. Chief Bill Gardner, Assistant Chief Stuart Heater, Battalion Chief Robert Curr and Lt. Robert Hogue were all instructors at Fire School this past week. LFD shared their expertise with hundreds of students showing their passion for the field and firefighter safety. As you can see from the pictures and the fact that it’s July, it’s a hot and long job. It’s amazing to see after a literally burning hot class these LFD instructors can still smile and speak with passion about their projects that they train other firefighters about. Leander should truly be proud to have a Fire Department with such commitment to excellence in the firefighting field. If you decide Firefighting is the career for you, the Cadet Academy and Volunteer Firefighting program at Leander Fire Department is the place to be to receive the training and experience you need! Our staff rocks!
