Thranduil designed the necklace of gems that the dwarves withhold for his wife, and ‘in his mind it was the last thing he owned that reminded him of his dead wife’. - Visual Companion by Jude Fisher ^_^ it is the only remnant he has left of her since she died :) ^_^ it is not the treasure, it is just this necklace he wants (Long will I tarry ere I begin this war for gold. ^_^ ) that’s why the necklace distorts his judgment, because he had it made for his wife before she died and the dwarves refuse to give it back :))) the only thing he has left of her :))) and Thror shut the box containing it right in front of his face :)))
