Three (3) separate, terribly frustrating conversations yesterday that were harbingers of our current situation. 1. An individual who believes there is no such thing as a “gender pay gap.” Ignored volumes of stats proving otherwise, yet offered no proof of his own. His argument boiled down to, “I know things.” 2. An individual who believes a false attribution of the President’s remarks on expanding pre-school education to be a war on ‘stay-at-home’ Moms. Even when presented with irrefutable, non-partisan proof that the quote was deliberately taken out of context, even after admitting the President said no such thing, she still clings to that belief. “I know things.” 3. An individual who - unsolicited - decided to use my wall to vent about how the Democratic party has fallen away from American ideals, and extolled the brilliance of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. When respectfully asked what his comments had to do with the topic at hand, he simply continued his rant. Again, no evidence to back his claims, just “I know things.” So, we have reached a point where civil conversation is difficult at best, evidence refuting questionable viewpoints is summarily ignored, and a mindless quest to return to an America that never truly existed pervades. I am in despair.
