Three Inuit Historians in Canada are: Roy Goose, Inuvialuk from Inuvik, Zebedee Nungak from Nunavik and I from Nunavut. Since we did not have a writing system as Inuit we developed an oral tradition to having information, accurately passed down from our Elders to our Youth. This ability, of course, is stronger in many aspects than others. When we tell our histories we tell it like it was, and look to our memories more so than books to know our history. Having said this, we need now to develop more of our Youth to become Inuit Historians.
