Three Students Arrested at North High after Large Fight Worcester, MA (January 20, 2015) - On Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at approximately 11:24 AM, Worcester Police responded to 150 Harrington Way, North High School, for a reported bomb threat. Students within the school were evacuated. Officers at the scene searched the building. The search produced nothing suspicious. The principal deemed the building safe and the students were allowed to re-enter. Approximately 15 minutes after the all clear signal was given officers at the scene heard over the school’s intercom system that a large fight had erupted on the third floor. Officers arriving on the third floor observed approximately 30 to 40 students fighting in separate groups. Police at the scene called for additional officers to respond. Officers at the scene described the students in the third floor hallway as “out of control”. A police officer observed a teacher attempting to hold back a 15-year-old female as she was trying to break free from his grasp. The teacher informed the officer that this student had punched him twice on the head. One of the assistant principals informed the officer that the same student had spit at her as she attempted to break up the fight that the girl was in. The student was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Assault and Battery and Disruption of a School Assembly. Another officer observed a second assistant principal restraining a 17-year-old female. The female was attempting to break free from the assistant principal. The girl was involved with a fight with several other girls. The officer observed that she would not calm down and continued to create a scene. After several warnings she was arrested for Disrupting a School Assembly. During the disturbance another officer was informed that a teacher had just been assaulted by a 6’0”, 235 pound 17-year-old male student. The teacher informed the officer that he was trying to get students away from the disturbance and into classrooms. The teacher was struck in the chest as he approached this student. The student began to yell obscenities at the teacher and told him not to touch him. The teacher ordered him into the classroom but was spit on in his face by the student. Two officers approached the student and he began to yell racial slurs and other obscenities at the officers. The student resisted the officers after he was advised that he was being placed under arrest. After a brief struggle the student was subdued. This student was charged with two counts of Assault and Battery and Disruption of a School Assembly. All students will be arraigned at the Worcester County District Courthouse on a date yet to be determined.
