Three alleged money doublers have been arrested by the police and detained at the Bo Eastern Police division. The three accused persons, Desmond Godwin Renner of Raymond James Street, Tokpoi town Section in Bo, Simeon Mdameh of 50 Water Street in Bo and Patrick Samba of 26 Kanneh Street in Pujehun were in possession of fake leones notes, two fake ECOWAS traveling cheques, large quantity of black and white papers, four syringes, one needle, one empty injection water bottle, three pairs of scissors, eight bottles of liquid believed to be used for money doubling and a pair of damaged slippers when arrested. ASJP Boosts Sierra Leone Police The Sierra Leone Police Force with support from Access to Security and Justice Programme (ASJP) has concluded a two-day national strategic session at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall in Kenema. The session was aimed at developing a “Hand Book” that would clearly define the roles and responsibilities of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) and Community Relations Officers in all police divisions across the country. Assistant Inspector General of Police East, Sorie B. Kargbo officially declared the session opened on behalf of the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police. Labor Congress Holds Leadership Training The Sierra Leone Labor Congress has ended a two-day training workshop for the leadership of informal economy unions. The training which was held at the National Stadium Hostel in Freetown, aimed to expose leaders of informal economy unions to business planning concepts. It attracted members of the bike riders union, photographers union and the union of musicians. GIABA Engages Youths on Anti-Money Laundering The Inter-Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundry in West Africa known as GIABA, an organ of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has engaged youths in Sierra Leone in an open house forum held at the Miata Conference Centre on Anti-Money Laundry. According to the National Correspondence of GIABA, Mr. Ahmed B. Kamara, the role of youth in the fight against money laundry and counter terrorist financing is very pivotal in the enhancement of national development and sustainable future. Wilberforce Residents Cry for Help Residents of Wilberforce in Freetown have expressed concern over the deplorable state of roads in that part of the country. According to reports, roads linking Wilberforce, Regent and other communities are full of potholes. Residents are blaming individuals for not complementing government’s efforts to complete these roads. Taekwondo Training Begins in Makeni The Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association (SLTA) on July 24, 2013 commenced a month long training at the old City Hall in Makeni for 50 participants selected from across the Northern region. The training will help the participants to participate in international competitions, seminars as well as knowing more about the rules. Teachers Threaten Parents Reports have alleged that teachers are now threatening parents and pupils to pay extra charges before they are issued with their report cards. In several schools across Freetown, it has been alleged that pupils are requested by teachers to pay Le10,000 before collecting their report cards. Pupils and parents are calling on the ACC to investigate the allegations.
