Three days to go before my first ever Nasheed is released…. I - TopicsExpress

Three days to go before my first ever Nasheed is released…. I wanted to share the story behind how I came to record this Nasheed. My story begins at the Living Islam festival during the summer of 2014. It is here that I meet Dawud Wharnsby for the first time. As we are riding back to the hotel together, I pluck up the courage to ask him whether he thinks that it would be worth my time trying to create a Nasheed to which he replies yes. It was from this night onwards in July that I would reconsider my stance into creating Nasheeds. My wife had previously tried to push me on a number of occasions to think about making Nasheeds however every time she would suggest, I would inform her that I didn’t believe I was Nasheed artist material. Over the next few days, I began thinking of and writing lyrics for my Nasheed ‘I’m a Muslim’. By the end of the first week in August, lyrics had been written and I had the melody for my chorus. I then decided to leave it for a few weeks until returning back to Dubai where I set up an online meeting with Dawud Wharnsby to discuss what he thought of my lyrics. I must say that he was extremely helpful and helped shape parts of my Nasheed to its current version. From here, I went to JR Studio (now known as Let the Change Be) in Dubai where I sampled my vocals by singing my proposed Nasheed. There were two key comments that came from this meeting; that I needed to learn to sing with the click or beat so as to make layering of the Nasheed easier and to change the melody I was using to something more in tune or in line with westernised ears - I was singing with the same tunes that I would normally recite Qur’an in. I went away from this meeting and it took me almost two months to change how my Nasheed would sound vocally. By the end of November, I returned to the studio whereby I recorded a sample of the Nasheed followed by a second return a week later early in December to record the final version. Fast forward two weeks and I get the call that my Nasheed is complete. This Nasheed could not have been done without the Will of Allah and the support of those close to me and everyone I worked with. I feel a huge thank you needs to be given to Idris Philips who helped shape the background sound/melody which can be heard in my Nasheed. I would also like to thank Husam Saleh who helped record, mix and edit my Nasheed as without him, this would not have been possible. Finally, a thank you to all of those behind the scenes who cannot/do not wish to be named. When my Nasheed is finally released on the 9/1/15 insha Allah, I really do hope you enjoy listening to it and that you share it with all of your contacts. To end, a major lesson that I learnt from this process is that if you believe in yourself, never give up. I say this because there were times when I was told that it could not be done as I had no experience in singing. With effort, things happen… youtube/watch?v=aCqO7oZEtRI
