Three degu sisters were surrendered today. They seem to be very sweet and tame. They are settling in well, and have already started to sing and chirp. The girls are clearly bonded, and will remain a trio. (Degus are social by nature, so its great that they are an established trio.) The girls are about 1-2 years old. Degus can live to be 9 years old, but the average is 6-8 years. The girls will be held in quarantine as we evaluate their health. They have some hair loss on their tail, and one has hair loss around her nose and ears. This could be from a stress factor in the previous home (we were told there was a curious dog), poor diet, barbering, or a skin condition. We do not believe it to be life threatening, so we are willing to accept applications for consideration when they are placed up for adoption. Never heard of a degu? Degus are small exotic rodents that have special care requirements, such as housing and diet. They must be kept in a wire care with small bar spacing (1/2in x 1in). Choosing the right diet can be tricky - consideration should be given to this prior to taking a degu home. You may need to order pellets online. The pellets should contain no molasses, as excess sugar can lead to diabetes. Degus also require grass hay (timothy, oat, or orchard), as well as some fresh vegetables. Appropriate degu specific pellets are not always available in stores. Our online care sheet provides a list of safe degu pellets, as well as a guide to their general care. chinsnfriends.wix/home#!blank/cxmn PS: We have not yet decided on names! You know what to do!
