Three new restaurants are coming to Old Town Lewisville as part of a development partnership between the City of Lewisville and Old Town Development, a company best known for successful efforts helping revitalize Roanokes historic district. Old Town Development has secured long-term commitments from Café Herrera, Cavalli Pizza and Jason Boso’s hybrid of Truck Yard and Twisted Root Burger. All three will be built on the north side of Church Street, between Charles and Herod, across the street from the city-owned Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater. Groundbreaking is scheduled within the next few months, and the first opening date will be sometime in 2015. The city entered into an economic development agreement with Old Town Development in April that includes transference of land, tax rebates and assistance with infrastructure improvements for the property. “Were looking forward to the next step of revitalization in our historic downtown district with the addition of these three new high-quality restaurants to Old Town Lewisville,” said Lewisville Mayor Pro Tem TJ Gilmore. “Having these businesses invest in our historic downtown will draw customers from across the region as they each have outstanding regional reputations and will help us continue to make Old Town, and Lewisville as a whole, a great place to live, work and play.” Twisted Root Burger is a chef-driven burger joint that appears on several “best burger” lists from the likes of D Magazine, the Dallas Observer, Burger Business, Dallas Voice and Texas Monthly. Truck Yard is a beer garden that has gained numerous accolades from critics, including CBS, Travel Channel and Dallas Culture. The Lewisville restaurant will be a blend of both concepts. Café Herrera is a popular Tex-Mex restaurant with multiple locations in DFW. For more than 40 years, Herrera’s has maintained family ownership and a commitment to serving fresh, high quality Tex-Mex. The founder’s granddaughter and great-grandson own several of the locations. Cynthia and Gil Bonifaz will operate the Lewisville location. They current operate the Love Field location on Denton Drive in Dallas that has been in the same location for more than 30 years, making it the oldest existing Herreras in Dallas. They opened a location at Mockingbird Station in Dallas last year, followed by a Cafe Herrera in Denton earlier this year. Cavalli Pizza, a family-owned Neapolitan pizzeria with locations in Irving and McKinney, is the go-to for pizza aficionados seeking bold, authentic Italian flavors. In 2012, Zagat rated Cavalli’s Pizzeria the “#1 Best Pizzas in Dallas.” Additionally, Cavalli Pizzeria just recently became the first Dallas restaurant to receive Associazone Pizzaiuoli Napoletani certification, an organization officially established by the Italian government to give special certification to pizzaolis that demonstrate the Neapolitan pizza making 200-year tradition. Revitalization of Old Town Lewisville has been a City Council priority since development of the Lewisville 2010 plan 15 years ago, and is a high priority in the recently adopted Lewisville 2025 plan. Among the top recommendations from committee members and community participants in that plan was new dining and entertainment options in Old Town.
