Three of our dogs, Lia, Bert & Hal had their first heartworm treatment this past week. They are all doing ok, but need to be kept contained and quiet. The treatment is very painful and as the heartworms die they can cause a clot in the bloodstream and possibly kill the dog, so we watch them very carefully. They will have their 2nd treatment in a month and then be in recovery for 4 to 6 weeks. This is a horrible process and is so easily prevented with a pill that costs less than $5 a month. Dont take the risk with your dog, give them prevention year round!
