Three shoplifters in custody after running down security agent privateofficer UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio March 7 2014— Three people, including a woman with an extensive criminal history, are facing first-degree felony charges that accuse them of stealing $1,500 in designer purses from T.J. Maxx and hitting a security guard with their car while trying to flee. Precious Johnson, 39, Renford R. Washington, 47, and Timothy Switzer, 27, all are charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery and fifth-degree felony theft in Shaker Heights Municipal Court. The aggravated robbery charge carries a maximum 11-year prison sentence. The theft charges carries a one-year maximum sentence. Johnson, the driver, and Washington are being held in the city jail on $250,000 bond. Switzer is being held on $150,000 bond. They are all scheduled for preliminary hearings on Monday. Online court records do not list attorneys for the trio. Police say the three tried to steal nine designer purses and two pairs of men’s socks from the T.J. Maxx store at University Square, allegedly picking up the merchandise and walking out of the store and into a red 1998 Ford Crown Victoria. A security guard working for the store tried to stop the group in the parking deck but Johnson reportedly drove the car into the man, striking him. Police say he suffered minor injuries but were awaiting an official report from the man after he visited his doctor. University Heights police responding to the call stopped the car and arrested the trio. Johnson, according to a search of court records, has been convicted of several crimes since 1993, including an aggravated robbery in Cleveland Heights that sent her to prison for four years. Records say Johnson was also sent to prison in 1993 for robbery and three counts of theft and receiving stolen property and attempted robbery in 2006. She was sentenced to two years probation on Jan. 14, 2014 after pleading guilty to aggravated theft. Reports say Johnson tried to steal $3,375 in merchandise from Dillard’s at the Beachwood Place Mall. She also had outstanding warrants at the time for theft in Bedford, which she eventually pleaded no contest to and for theft by deception in Highland Heights. The Highland Heights case is still pending, records say. County court records show no cases for Switzer or Washington.
