Three snaps from fencing at the estate. One pleasant, two- hopefully- informative. The arbor at the Estate of Our Lady of Good Success is a great foil piste; especially since our strip is only three feet wide and ten feet long,a s opposed to the sport variety. No 1. Pretty good guards. No. 2. Fencer on the right has broken one of the cardinal rules in Classical foil and began his attack with movement from the body (or foot). He has telegraphed his stroke; allowing his opponent to get half way through a retreat before attackers arm has been extended. No. 3. Much better from the right. The right arm is extending, creating right of way and theoretically, and practically, putting his opponent on the defensive (even if the distance is a bit far)..
