Three times in the last week people have asked me how John is doing - they havent heard the news that he passed away. Two were clients at work who asked me when we were talking on the phone. The first had been my client and had never met John but had heard about him by reputation. The second was a long-standing client of Johns. I could hear his devastation down the phone. But todays was the hardest of all. I was at an all day seminar and met someone who had been one of Johns youth leaders when he was young. Hed known John for most of his life and he and his wife had been guests at our wedding a lifetime ago. I thought he knew and so was completely caught off guard when after some general chit-chat about our children he then asked how John was doing. Sometimes its like being thumped right in the stomach especially when you have to look someone who cared a great deal for John right in the eye and tell them. I hope that I wont have to do this too many more times.
