Three years ago, this little miniature horse was one of dozens and dozens of animals we rescued from a hoarding situation, after the man had died. Little Cisco had spent years in agony due to untrimmed hooves which led to him foundering and never receiving treatment. He couldnt walk when we got there; we had to have several people lift him into the horse trailer. The first picture shows clearly his overall condition. My wonderful friend Ruth adopted Cisco and his pasture mate Bam Bam, who also had foundered and was in similar condition. Xrays showed that Ciscos coffin bone had degenerated to the point where it was almost non-existent. Thanks to Ruth and her vet, Cisco was given a second chance with some extreme hoof re-sectioning and against all odds, he was able to walk pain free for the first time in years. The last photo shows him at his peak. Sadly, the damage to his feet was only so fixable. Cisco spent the last three years with Ruth and her husband, spoiled rotten and loved beyond words. He proved to be a gentle soul with a huge heart and he adored affection and attention. But over the last 4 months, his feet started to decline. It was time. We said goodbye to little Cisco this morning. Fly free, little man. May you never feel pain again and may you race across the clouds, free and full of joy, forever.
