Three years ago today I was bartering with this belly. I desperately did not want to induce labor. It just seemed like an eviction. I had April, our surrogate, try all the usual remedies, pineapple, spicy foods, I even jumped out wearing a mask to scare her. Nothing worked. So I decided to barter directly with Estelle. Being a shrewd negotiator I started small. I dangled cheese down near the exit area. I mean, who doesnt love cheese. Nothing. Then I upped my ante. I offered her an iPhone. Babies love that stuff, right? Nothing. Then I offered an iPad. I was desperate. Being the shrewd negotiator she sensed my desperation and held out. Finally I went all in. I told her if she came out Id fly her to Paris for her first birthday and let her pick out her next Vuitton item at the mother store on the Champs-Élysées. Within a few hours I was holding her. One year later we packed for London and Europe. Damn I love her.
