Three years ago today, my grandfather woke up on this earth for his final time. He would spend today between sleep and short bouts of awareness. But every time he opened his eyes, he found his family laughing and loving each other. When most people sat crying, my mom, Aunts Cindy and Donna wrestled on the couch. My Uncles Dan and Jim would not take any of their sides, only laughing and encouraging each them from across the room. Grandma had tears but hers were from laughing at her kids. When Grandad would open his eyes, his kids didnt stop and run to his bedside with, How are you feeling? Do you need anything? They merely froze in their wrestling positions and one of the girls would yell, Dad! Tell Debbie to stop cheating! Im sure they were all just letting out their frustrations and emotions but it allowed Grandads final day to be just as all of his earthly days were: filled with the sound and sights of a family who love each other. Today I cry as I recall details from three years ago, and because I am so thankful for the family my Grandma and Grandad created. The Broome Clan is truly something special.
