Thrilled to be presenting our Parenting in a Digital Age workshop tomorrow at Holman Fenwick Willan LLP in London. At the Parent Practice, when it comes to parenting in the digital age, we believe that: - Parents need to take care not to panic when their children are online or using a new piece of technology or a new app, but to manage screens effectively by setting reasonable limits. This is about enjoying the best and avoiding the worst! - The key to avoiding battles is clear communication and connection rather than coercion and control. - Our role is to teach our children to not just survive, but to thrive in the online world. - Technological protection only goes so far .. it is much more important to have parenting tools to go along with it. Looking for some top tips? Here you go! - Try a drop zone/phone basket so all gadgets and mobiles are placed in it at night time - Plan detox weekends - for you too! - Create a diary of time spent online to get a real grip on who does what and when and for how long. The caveat here is that it could be you that comes on top for most time online! - Use an app like selfcontrolapp to help you avoid using websites that are distracting. You can set a time limit to keep you out of websites you request. This was recommended by a secondary school student who swears by it as a means to stay focussed on his school tasks! Brilliant!
