Through sheer force of will and the generosity of so many people, St Johns County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics IAFF Local 3865 succeeded in making this Memorial Day truly memorable for one veteran. After raising in excess of $5500 yesterday at a fundraiser held at Ann OMalleys Deli and Pub in St Augustine, Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient Mr Herb Griffin will be headed back to Normandy, France to fulfill his life-long dream of returning. He will be traveling with his brother to attend the 70th Anniversary ceremonies to take place starting in June. Spearheaded and conceived by Lt Dave Franklin, with the help of Michelle Grant, Brian Aschoff, John and Sherri Cunningham (annomalleys), JFRD Pipes and Drums, Jason Kerr, Fire and Iron Motorcycle group and our brothers at Local 122 (and their tremendous donation!), Local 3865s Executive Board and members, and too many others to list, yesterday demonstrated what we can achieve as an organization and a community. Well done everyone, well done!
