Throughout United States history we have had some very close elections. In 1960, President John F. Kennedy won the popular vote over Richard Nixon by a little more than a hundred thousand votes. In 2000 the election between George W. Bush and Al Gore was so close in Florida that it required the intervention of the Supreme Court. The votes were certified in the state of Florida and President Bush won the State of Florida and the Presidency by a little over five hundred votes. I believe one of the closet elections in US history was a Senate race in the state of New Hampshire back in 1976. The candidates were Democrat John Durkin and Republican Louis C. Wyman. On Election Day, Wyman was declared the winner. A recount was ordered and Durkin was declared the winner. Finally, after two recounts Durkin held election by only two votes. There are always those who would state that their vote does not count, but each vote does count. Two people in the State of New Hampshire determined a Senate race. Election Day is coming up on November 4th. This is your chance as a citizen of the United States to cast your vote and make a difference. Throughout the nation, elections will be held for Congressional Seats, State Legislators seats, Local Leadership, as well as State and Local Questions. Make a point to vote. It is your right! It is your duty! And it can make a difference.
