Throughout history people have always spoken of tormented/tortured artists and their respective demons as if the hardship is the fact that theyre tortured/tormented/have demons. Thats really not it. There is a feeling of almost enlightenment every time one of us comes to realize that this is a one way ticket...that there wont be a happy ending...no descendants...no smooth sailing. However the ultimate and true hardship comes in knowing that and then knowing in your soul that time is finite and you have to bring to the table the best of your creative output you possibly can. When the end is finally reached...people will weep, sure...but your legacy of what you have created will outlast any period of grief.
