ThrowBack Christmas! December 2012, an article I wrote The Gift....Enjoy! The Gift It’s called many things in this world, but I know now it is a gift. It is something that many keep inside a box. The box might be black and dusty, or velvet and sparkly, but it is still a box. The ribbon that keeps the lid on tight can be cotton or silk. Either way, it is holding shut the contents of the box. The gift remains hidden in the darkness of the box. No light finds its way to the gift. Nothing that can feed or nurture the gift penetrates the box. The gift feels secure, safe in the box; but is it? Tears are water. They could penetrate the box, ruin the gift and then dry up like they never existed. Knives of hatred and betrayal could pierce the box and the gift could shrivel and become fearful in what was once considered the safety of the box. But inside, the box still seems better than what exists outside the box. At least that is how it seems to the gift....for now. Too many times the gift came out of the box and found that it was not appreciated. The gem, the treasure of the gift was never viewed as such by those who received the gift. Sometimes this gift should not be given. Hard to know when is the right opportunity until you completely remove the gift from the box and put it into the hands of the receiver. Knives pierce outside the box too. Heat breathing down on the gift encourages it to melt. Melting makes the gift feel it is becoming weak. But, how wonderful the warmth feels on the coldness that others once blew onto the gift. The heat builds and builds and the gift melts and melts. Never again does the gift want to return to the darkness and solitude of the box. Never again does the gift want to NOT be seen by the bright and beautiful other gifts of this world. When the gift went into the box the outside seemed to be dark and desolate. But now, the receiver appreciated the gift. The receiver loved the gift. The receiver treasured the gift. The gift is not the only gift in the world. The receiver is not the only receiver in the world. But, this one particular gift in the hands and safety of one particular receiver is what makes the box go away. Forever. And ever. Open your heart. Share your love. Receive what is awaiting you, once you leave the box.
