ThrowBackThursday: Vineyard planning occurs far in advance of planting. First, you must identify the location to plant, then prepare the soils, rest the land with a cover crop, and finally plant the actual grape variety which must be tended to for several years before a crop is produced. Heres a photo from fall of 2012 for an area we just planted last week. You can see a gentle slope where we graded the land taking out many rocks, planted it with grass and let it rest for all of 2013. then in 2014 we planted grapes.
