Throwback Thursday - Sentimental Journey: Woke up in Phoenix and ate Mexican food in Belvidere. Heres some pics from todays wanderings. First pic: Dari Ripple - best soft serve in northern Illinois. In high school, I sold Christmas trees there for kin of the owners. Second pic: Old post office building and now home to the Main Street Program. Third pic: My dads first dental office. He took over for Dr. Drake when Drake was drafted in 1956. Fourth pic: The Apollo Theater. Kid tickets on Saturday only fifteen cents and boxed candy a nickel. See what a quarter got you. Now a fiesta place for quinceneras. Fifth pic: My home on West Lincoln Avenue. It is now abandoned, in foreclosure, and full of sadness. The photo doesnt do its blight justice. Sixth pic: the dam in Belvidere Park that I do know why they built it. I figure that Ill check out the Boone County Historical Museum in the morning. Opens at nine.
