Throwback Thursday: March 2006, one of my favourite days out ever, the renaming of 37901 at Llangollen. As befits a reunion of Mirrlees people, an utterly chaotic day. The loco was supposed to take two trains to Carrog and back after the renaming ceremony, but of course it refused to start after Eddie Fish parted the curtains to reveal the Mirrlees Pioneer plate. Some wellwisher decided I would have a clue what was wrong with it so I got shoved into the radiator compartment to poke hopefully at the oil pressure switches. It eventually became clear that there just werent enough Ernies in the batteries, so we were ignominiously dragged back to the shed by a steam engine (3802, iirc) where 901 was jump started from a Class 20. After all that there was only time for one run up the line in the dark but I dont remember laughing so much in years, swapping all the old tales with the likes of Iain Smith, Mike Jacques, Peter Crowle, the late Geoff Wigzell, plus one or two who are on Stalkbook like Marian Parker, Peter Rowley, Paul Beetham etc.
