Throwback Thursday: No.1A Kodak Junior Autographic, 1914–1927. This model was available with different lenses; this one has a meniscus achromatic (fixed focus) lens with a Kodak Ball Bearing Shutter with T, B, 1/25s, 1/50s and 1/100s settings. Selection of apertures were #1, 2, 3, and 4, roughly corresponding to f/11–f/32. The autographic feature allowed the photographer to write notes onto the film by opening a small door on the back of the camera and scratching notes with a stylus onto the paper backing of autographic film. This was then briefly exposed to light, effectively burning this information onto the film before the door was closed. This camera took 116 film (out of production since 1984). A couple of simple modifications and this particular camera now takes 120 film and is usable once again. The camera may be a century old but the image of the birch trees is a few weeks old. The point is this: If you like film photography, experimentation, and old things, dont hesitate to spend a couple of bucks on an old camera at a tag sale.
