Throwback Thursday time. No revealing pictures of my past. Instead, my first ever job interview rejection letter. While still in college, I interviewed on site during my Spring Break with Metagaming (aka Metagaming Concepts), the original publishers of Ogre, The Fantasy Trip and a whole line of micro games. I interviewed on site, met Howard Thompson, Steve Jackson, Ben Ostrander and Forrest Brown from Martian Metals. I saw delicate wax sculptures intended for a Chitin line of miniature figures. I even have a pic of Steve Jackson working at a light table. In the end, they chose not to hire me and hire Howard an assistant. My personal assessment: I experienced religious discrimination in hiring (there were some things that were said afterwards that suggested that). Metagaming stayed a viable contender for a few years after that, but eventually disappeared when Thompson disappeared from the game industry five years later in 1983, leaving much of their intellectual property in a state of limbo. The art piece was done while I was in college and was eventually purchased for use by Judges Guild Game Company. I feel its appropriate for today because of the release of Guardians of the Galaxy on home video. My Star Ranger is directly based on the Marvel character Star Lord (as he appeared in the comics, not the movie). The pattern inside the white circle was produced with a Spirograph toy. #TBT #ThrowbackThursday
