Throwin it back to last night when my son approached me in the kitchen and said Dad I learned something new today and I said oh whats that. Well, you have to come into the library for me to show you. I started to say let me finish reading this and then Ill be there and after a moment going back to reading I said no dont keep him waiting hes obviously got something important to show me by the look on his can barely hold his smile back face. I said okay this can wait what do ya got and hopped up to follow him into the library. When I enter a few steps ahead of him I instantly notice a piece of the furniture out of place. Its the electric piano bench and I thought hmmn, thats strange, no ones sat there or played the thing in ages. Before I can question why its pulled away from the piano he takes his seat in front of it and I think no way. He has never and I mean never really ever tinkered with it. Nor have I really, Pams the one that can sit with sheet music before her and play favorites pretty well. It was a Christmas gift to herself a few years back and with songbooks she dove back into playing and then just as quickly with so much on her plate simply stopped. It sits unused and unheard, waiting. I chuckle at the thought almost every time I pass through the room. Sensing he might be a little nervous doing what hes about to do I turn away to look at family photos on shelves and say I know you might get nervous if I watch so Im just going to not watch. He had already said to me okay see if you recognize this. So with my back turned to him he begins to play piano. I recognize it instantly. Its his favorite band on the planet and the song is from the year he turned one. We live in a beautiful world. He paused after the first run through and I said whaaaaa?, and how on earth did you learn to do that? An online tutorial on the internet on his phone. He ran through it a dozen times first the right hand part separate and then the left and then both together with but a few miscues of a beginner. I said wait til your mother gets home and sees and hears this. She gets home Friday, and he wants to surprise her, evidenced by his ssssshing me when I tried to convey it to her long distance last night.
