Thunderstorm activity currently extending along the I-81 corridor is associated with a surface trough out ahead of the main cold front (what we refer to as a pre-frontal trough). This poses a threat for locally heavy rainfall as storms move from southwest to northeast over the same areas. A line of storms in western New York ahead of the main cold front is expected to move through central New York this evening and also poses a threat for flash flooding for areas east of Interstate 81. Therefore a Flash Flood Watch has been issued until midnight.
