Thursday 18 September. I vowed several months ago not to post comments re the above and apart from the odd lapse I have generally held true to my promise. Im not going to change my mind and I equally have scant chance of persuading others to change theirs so engaging in tit for tat that only serves to wind each other up is in my view, counter productive and a waste of energy. A couple of observations however. From a political commentators point of view it must have been a fascinating two years as the Yes side have eventually whittled away the No lead to the potential photo finish now in prospect. I am genuinely heartened by the extent to which people who generally want no part of politics have became engaged in the process. I sincerely hope that it is a lasting legacy and not a one - off phenomenon. Politics is for life, not just referendums. Another less welcome legacy is the divisions it has created, particularly among those who otherwise share a common ideological purpose. These divisions are now deep and entrenched and may take many years to heal. There have been times over the last two years when I contemplated becoming actively involved in politics again but sadly I see no prospect of that in the foreseeable future, perhaps never again. To finish, on Thursday, rain, hail or shine get out and vote and please, please respect the result regardless of which way you cast your vote.
