Thursday 31/7: Set off this morning with the plan to stop at Port Hedland for morning tea and decide where to next. Port Hedland is a typical mining town and one of the worlds busiest working harbours. There are lots of 4 trailer road trains coming and going as well as rail trains, big tankers in the port and huge salt piles waiting to be shipped. We had to stop for a train to cross in front of us, we counted 126 carts being pulled behind the engine. A quick stopover for lunch before heading through Roeburn to Cleaverville Beach. We passed some mine trucks being transported and had to pull off the road for them to pass. We thought they were huge, but the truckie said they were only little ones! The scenery has changed again, not as flat now, the terrain is more interesting, still a loooooong way between towns! We are settled in at Cleaverville beach, camped in the sand dunes with the beach to one side and the mountains on the other, all for $10 a night. We had a walk along the beach this afternoon and found our first wild flowers of the trip - Sturt Desert Peas. Looking forward to spending tomorrow relaxing on the beach.
