Thursday 4th September Koala Room Update Today in the Koala room the children had a wonderful morning creating a group collage and drawing with textures with their educators Sha and Linda. During morning group time Sarah got the bells out for the Koala children to explore and investigate .The Koala children danced and sung if you’re happy and you know it shake your bell. The Koala children also enjoyed exploring books with Jackie and dancing to music. To follow up on the Koala children’s interest in using the blocks for windows to look through we decided to make our very own stained glass windows. The children used their fine motor skills to put feathers, glitter, cellophane, paper and stars on to the sticky book covering. The children then enjoyed looking at their creation on the window. Aria pointed to the stained glass window and said ‘pretty’. The other children clapped when we got it to stick on the window. The Koala children had a wonderful creative day in their inside environment. Possum Room Update Today in the Possum room Jess provided a craft activity of cotton bud painting. Zoe L and Charlie both enjoyed having a turn and telling Jess the colours of the paint green, yellow, purple, blue and red. Back by popular demand was washing the baby dolls this was very popular this morning as Lilly went and gathered up all the babies and helped to give them a wash as we sang “ This is the way we wash the baby”. We talked about the babies hair, mouth, legs, belly and face. Jess also asked which children have a bath or a shower? Blaze said “Blaze and dad have a shower”, Lilly said “I have a shower”. Banjo loved having a turn of the baby doll this morning putting a nappy on the baby doll and then taking it for a walk in the pram. Jaanavhi enjoyed having some quiet time this morning in book corner as she choose a book to sit down and read about a caterpillar with big eyes. Zoe L was very enthusiastic with counting this morning as she picked up an animal and started counting 1, 2,3,4,5,6. Well done Zoe L, very clever. Lylah loved to build with the Lego blocks, building a tower. Sienna was very intrigued as she spun the helicopter propeller around with her finger. Dylan set up a craft activity this morning painting the children’s hands and letting them out hand prints all over the paper everyone loved this activity it was very popular. Bilby Room Update We have had a very busy day outside practicing our physical skills in a variety of ways. Walking along the obstacle course was a lot of fun and provided a challenge to some children as they balanced on a variety of shapes and heights then finished off with a big jump onto the artificial grass. Nate was really enjoying the balance bike and continued to ride it for most of the morning. He was very proud that he could balance with his feet off the ground for short periods of time. Bill and Rihanna made a maze that they walked through following each other around and up and down the different corridors that they made. A few of the other children came in to join them. In the sandpit we made a trench and placed a piece of wood across it, this made a bridge for the children to cross, again testing our balancing skills. Hudson, Hunter, Rihanna, Riya, Leila, Bill and Heidi placed the chairs into a line and made a bus. This bus was taking the children to the beach for a swim, to the shops to buy some food and to the airport to catch a plane. Bill was the driver and when he got off the bus for a swim Heidi took over the driving continuing on to the shops and to the airport. She took the bus to these destinations and then picked the children up again and dropping them back off at preschool. Platypus Room Update What a Windy day we had in the Platypus room today, Charlee and Blake decided to create a small cubby house like the room inside by using the home corner chairs and a large blue net to hide themselves inside. Scarlett and Rose loved playing with the toy animals today, Rose held up an elephant and made a stomping noise as she approached Scarlett who held onto a cow who was mooing back. They then built a small house for the animals using small blocks as a fence like shape. Cooper and Sophia took up at seat at the white board table. Sophia decided to draw a rainbow “with lots of colours” she even found Mel outside to show her the wonderful drawing. Cooper was a busy little bee making large circles on the white board and then rubbing them out with paper towel as he went. Hayden was making a birthday cake out of playdough and using the teddy bear cut out to make small biscuits for his friends. Tony read the book “Noises at night” and discussed with the children what things they hear in the night. Luciana said she’s hears “sleeping dolls and the moon” Kangaroo Room Update We had a day full of activity today with friends really enjoying each other’s company and the resourses available to them. The main event of the early morning was time at the domino table, Micheala extended on this by showing children some elaborate domino formations including the world record holders, this inspired friends to build and stack the dominoes in a manner with more creativity. The hairdressers table is still gaining a lot of attention, especially from the boys who are very intrigued with the creations they can make in a girls hair without her crying! Friends spent time drawing on the perspex frames, this is an unusual experience as they can draw their own image or copy and follow their friends drawing on the other side. The hospital corner was a place of caring and sharing; friends are using the equipment really maturely. We headed out in the wind once again, this time we made some different flying object, plastic bags on string and bubble wrap. Micheal took on the parachute and nearly took flight, lucky the wind was not as fierce as yesterday. Fun was had in the sandpit as always and the day ended with some great dancing. Emu Room Update Reflection by: Michaela What an exciting day in the Emu room today. After playing dominoes with some of the children I showed the children a few clips of people making domino creations. The children were amazed that you could put so many dominoes together to create some fantastic constructions. We watched some high school students build a wall of dominoes that stretched the entire length of their school hall. Ace, Arliah, Amara and Danika chose to try and make our own domino line in our room. We had a few hiccups and knocked them over by accident, but after being really careful we managed to build one and had fun watching it fall down. Following on with the Cat in the Hat theme today the children had the opportunity to make their very own Cat in the Hat. Olivia G spent time sorting out where the cats eyes would go, while Lucas started his picture by writing his name he then spent time gluing the eyes on and making sure that cat had his bowtie in the right spot. Riley explained to the educators how he was decorating his cat picture. We were fortunate enough to be able to spend some time outside today. As it was still quite windy some children declined to go outside and chose to stay indoors and participate in some free play or an activity. There has been lots of discussions about the meaning of Father’s Day. Michaela asked the children what they like to do with their Dad’s on Fathers’ Day here are some responses: Riley: Play Mario cart with Dad Olivia G: Reading books with Dad Arliah: Make cupcakes with Dad Danika: Paint with Dad
