Thursday 6th March : Year total 1252.25 kilograms . I headed out early , before dawn , to do a clean up along Killarney road . The whole riding the Wannabe bike before sun rise routine hit a major obstacle when I hit a dead kangaroo lying in the middle of the road . There was a car traveling a short way ahead of me so I had my headlight on low beam , not really able to see much ahead of me , and struck the deceased animal at around 70 kilometers an hour . Upon coming to a rest , I managed to drag the bike off the side of the road , hyperventilating from shock and significant pain in one of my shoulders . A wonderful couple who live near by , Rob McConnell and Astrid Turner , heard the crash and came down in their car to help me , getting in touch with the ambulance and making sure I was alright until it arrived . They even got the bike into the safety of their driveway and delivered it back to my place in the afternoon . What fantastic people . I spent about 3 hours in hospital , getting x-rays and having my road rash treated . I was wearing a pair of overalls a the time of the crash but they tore out in the knees and elbows so there was quite a bit of skin damage . I fear I won’t be doing any clean ups for a couple of weeks at least . This has made me reassess using the bike in the dark . Looks like future excursions , should I get the bike going again , will be limited to day time . I hope to get back on the road again relatively soon , so roll on that day .
