Thursday 9:15 am update Again I apologize for my absence, but Ive been enjoying having Kristina so close to home lately. Ive been making several trips to see her and Im still able to work, so this has been a good move. We did have a very good day yesterday. Kristina got the best physical therapy report shes had since the stroke. She worked very hard and everyone was pleased. While these are a big deal, they are still just baby steps. Her breathing is still a major concern, but the last couple of days, she has been initiating a few breaths on her own. Last night the pattern on the vent was getting very squiggly, and I was concerned, but when I asked about it, they said that was her trying to over breathe the vent. So it was actually a good thing. And that was even after being paralyzed for mouth care. We were trying to avoid the paralytic because it is such a setback, but the sedative just wasnt working. Rather than being paralyzed 14 times a week like she had been, the doctor has ordered it 4 times a week. So hopefully we can still work towards rehabilitation. A lot of people have been asking, and I didnt want to answer for several reasons, but we moved Kristina to Select in Evansville. The staff there has been very impressive thus far. I am very particular about her care, and they have gone above and beyond and always keep me involved. Now, the reason I went ahead and shared that information is because we have had dozens of people wanting to go visit her. While I know everyone means well, we have to remember that she isnt there because she just had a hip replaced or something minor, she is in very critical condition. So to protect her, I have restricted visitors. It is setup to require a password to go see her, and Im currently the only one who knows that password. We had a few surprises along the way here, and I dont want to jeopardize any progress we have made, so I hope everyone understands. Select has a very strict visitor policy and scheduled hours for visitation, and due to her condition, I worked it out with them where family could be there around the clock, and I dont want to risk losing that privilege. Also, Kristinas short term memory isnt working well. When she wakes up, she sometimes appears frightened and upset, and its because she doesnt remember where she is or why shes there, so we have to constantly remind her. As one of the toughest people I know, even I struggle to fight back tears when Im with her, and Im sure if she sees someone crying, she may be alarmed by that because she doesnt know what is going on, so I didnt want any visitors to stop by and cause her to worry. I hope everyone understands. When she works through this and comes home, my door will be open to each and every one of you, but for now, we have to focus on Kristina. Thank you all for your prayers and God bless all of you. #kristinastrong
