Thursday January 8 I was born and raised in Manoa Valley, Honolulu. I played in the forests and mountain streams with siblings and cousins. One of my first dancing jobs was at Paradise Park, at the very end of the road in the back of the valley. Coming here to Manoaʻs Paradise Park to practice our dances for a show next week brings back so many happy memories. The sights and smells and sounds of the forest has been a large part of what inspires me when I dance hula. Hula draws a connection to onesʻs personal experiences, a connection to the past, and a connection to nature.
