Thursday, March 13 1st Week of Lent R1: Est 4 :17 Go : Mt 7 :7-12 Reflection by: Bro. Yosep Ama Piran, SS.CC DO NOT ASK WHAT THE COMMUNITY HAS GIVEN TO YOU, BUT ASK WHAT YOUVE GIVEN TO THE COMMUNITY. Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. This paragraph is very interested for me. This verse became the most profound reflection for me, especially this year. The Word of Jesus in this verse truly inspires me to live life as a religious in the SS.CC community in Jogjakarta. I reflected on my life as a brother, with all my needs – personal, study, as well as other needs equal my serving the community and helping others. The question for me is am I more demanding, letting my own needs overwhelm my life and take precedence over my purpose to serve the community? As a seminarian with the SS.CC, I admit that I demand much more from my community but in doing so, I failed to realize that I did not do my part in serving the community when the community needed me. When I was in postulate, my formator, Brother Hendrikus, SS.CC said: “Do not be too demanding in life. Give thanks to God for what is already provided for you by the community. Many people outside are not able to have and enjoy the facilities and infrastructures that you enjoy today. The SS.CC gives its life and its service to you, now ask yourself what has been given to you and what would you give back to the SS.CC community.” Thank you Jesus, you made me realize and appreciate gratitude and the giving of myself to serve others. Please help me to always maintain this virtue. Amen.
