Thursday, March 20 2014 Exodus 16:1-21 Today I am reminded of how familiar the “Easter Story” is to so many. It brings hope to the world, and challenges people to live life to its fullest potential. After 3 years of DAILY fulfilling his call to ministry among his contemporaries, Jesus set out for Jerusalem to fulfill his call to redeem mankind. He knew that out of the daily struggle, the agony of the cross awaited Him, BUT also the glory of returning to God’s presence. Today’s scripture finds the Israelites tramping along in the desert. Having enjoyed the highs of escaping slavery, they were in the doldrums, complaining bitterly. It was the DAILY struggle of hunger, thirst and discomfort getting to them. The Israelites were given the lesson of trusting God one day at a time. God provided Manna for their hunger, “Everyone can go out each day and gather as much food as he needs.” They needed to trust God daily, not worry about the next day. I find that so encouraging. One day at a time, no wallowing in the mistakes of the past or worrying over the future, but trusting in God’s love and grace to provide for today. How did Jesus get through these last weeks? He took it one day at a time living it to the fullest as he journeyed to the glory of Easter. Prayer: Lord, we come as people who need to learn to lean on you. Grant us the courage and wisdom to trust you one day at a time. Rev. Jo An Schaetzel St. John UCC, Woodland
