Thursday Music #107 (October 2, 2014) Many of us have felt ashamed, faced fear, been downtrodden, and even engulfed in deep despair. However, our sisters and brothers in Iraq and other war-ravaged countries are experiencing far worse problems. How do we make sense of all these acts of violence, hatred, and inhumanity towards fellow human beings? What can we do to help promote peace and love? We can definitely offer heartfelt prayers and we can also be answered prayers for other people in our own ways. Amidst the darkness, we are called and challenged to be the “light of the world” as Jesus once said. Let us not remain neutral nor indifferent to the sufferings of people. We have to make a stand and live out the famous Latin term “Luceat Lux” or let our light shine, a light that comes from Christ Himself, the Light of the World. Thus, we are called to spread the Good News, especially in dark and terrible times, to all peoples and every land. As you pray with the song, “We Are” by Kari Jobe, reflect on your experiences of shadows and light. Ponder also on the recent world events and let God’s light guide you on how you can be a beacon of hope, peace and love in our dark & broken world today. And yes, we are truly meant to be more than what we are now, individually and collectively as citizens of this world. May our prayers this Thursday and everyday reach the devastated areas of Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Ukraine and wherever there is an absence or lack of hope or love. May our prayers touch peoples hearts from every nation, race and religion with light of Jesus.
