Thursday October 23 At the end of the day when the shadows are long, I like to walk The Wall. This is the levee along Kawainui Marsh in Kailua, built by the Army Corps of Engineers to protect residents from flood waters during heavy rains. The last golden rays of the sun create a heavenly light. Pleasant sounds of gurgling water spill out from the reeds, as waterfowl call out to each other. Everyone comes out for their exercise: the Kalaheo High School track team, new daddys jogging with their babies in strollers, girlfriends out for a walk and some girl-talk, and dog-walkers just like me.
