Thursday, October 9th, 2014. SCRIPTURAL WARNING AND DANGERS OF RICHES [Continued]. Text: Matthew 19:16-30; James 5:1-6. Meditative Verse: And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God - Matthew 19:24 (KJV) Todays text marks out the story of a certain young rich ruler who request Jesus for the paths he must take or follow so as to inherit eternal life: highlighting the background to Christs warning against the dangers of riches. Directively Christ gave the ruler some commandment specifically, perhaps to make him become conscious of his sinfulness and guilt. But the man felt he had perfectly- entirely wanting nothing- kept the laws right from his youth. Jesus Christ responded by telling him one vital thing yet missen or lacken from all what he assumed the perfect way. Christ told him to go and sell all that he had gotten, distribute it to the poor then follow Him. Sorrowfully at this time, he turned away because he was unprepared to be a part with his great wealth for the sake of gaining eternal life. How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needles eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God (Luke 18:24,25 KJV). The clarity of Christs statement here has been misinterpreted and misapplied in various ways at different times. Actually, what Jesus said and what He meant is figuratively clear. Christ did not say that a rich man cannot be saved, neither did He say that saved man cannot keep his wealth. Jesus justly said it is extremely difficult for a person to get saved if he has great wealth and trusts in his riches or loves it that it cant be sacrificed for God. The gospel according to Mark puts it that: Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! (Mark 10:24 KJV). Orderly to further proof that rich people can be saved, Jesus Christ backed up the teaching with, the things which are impossible with men are possible with God. (Luke 18:27). That means, Gods grace is sufficient to anyone, be it to be the poor or rich, to get saved, provided he or she is sincere and ready to give up whatever God may demand of the person. Prayers: Just as You gladly gave Your life and the throne for my salvation, I will not refrain my committment to you for vanities sake. Give me grace. In Jesus name. Amen Further Reading: James 5:1-8
