Thursday September 19 2013 TOPIC: The Almighty God TEXT: Job 5:1-16 Key Verse: “He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the forward is carried headlong” (Job 5:12, 13). The Bible is replete with ordinary folks who got elevated to positions of authority and who ironically arrogated such pre-eminence to themselves. Remember Pharaoh, Herod, Nebuchadnezzar, Bethshazar, Ahab and so on; earthly potentates who became so deluded that they thought they were superior to the Almighty. It is always amusing to witness the way the Almighty demystifies arrogant and proud men and proves to all that He is Lord without equal. In our passage today, we see that sin destroys the sinner and tose opposed to God who have no share of the safety and protection he offers His children. God is benevolent; He supports the downcast and the sorrowing. He frustrates the devices of the crafty and delivers his saints form them. “the curse of the Lord is the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just” (Proverbs 3:330. As He dealt with Haman, Ahithopel and the kings that rose up against the children of Judah, so He will do today for the preservation and the protection of His children. Dear reader, are you a friend of God? A steadfast believer should not doubt the ability of God to save to the uttermost and to frustrate the token of so-called “big men” who are no more than liars. Although the testimonies of Job’s friends were a mish-mesh of exaggerations, untruths and outlandish statements, grains of truth were also contained therein. God truly has the capacity to “disappoint the devices of the crafty… taketh the wise in their own craftiness… and saveth the poor from the sword…” in the wooly treatise of Eliphaz lies a competing thesis. With God, nothing shall be impossible. Have you made peace with the Almighty through Christ? Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing blood? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb. Today, you are invited to taste of the Almightiness of God and enter into His rest from, all the fear, threats, challenges and vagaries of life. Thought For The Day: God is our very present help in trouble.
