Thursday TRY THIS :) ISOMETRIC VS ISOTONIC What is it I hear you say? Well we do isotonic contractions all the time they are all movements that shorten and lenthen the muscle throughout the contraction like a bicep curl or a squat etc. Isometric are when the muscle stays the same length with the same force, examples of this is a wall sit or plank etc The isotonic exercises are of course vigorous which aids in burning calories and weight reduction. The isometric exercises work the muscle fibres that otherwise would remain idle as they force all the fibres to become fatigued. Have you ever had your trainer give you a wall sit and tell you to stay in that position for the maximium amount of time until you cant hold for any longer??? Yes I hear you say trying to erase that memory.. So the conclusion is what is better?? Well depending on what your goals are try adding a mixture of both contractions to your workouts!!! Do a squat with a wall sit, a pushup with a plank, barbell shoulder presses then hold the weight above your head until you cant hold on any longer, plated frontal raises again then hold plate out in front of you for as long as possible. Ask a trainer to add these to your next program or book in for an update NOW!!!
