Thursday Thought: GIRL! WHO ARE YOU WEARING?? Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. Romans 13:14 - NIV Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12 – NIV Oftentimes women are so concerned about what designer someone is wearing. We’ve certainly watched enough awards shows to know that this is very important to the world that we live in. We need to know if it’s the bag is Prada, if the shoes are Gucci, if the dress is Vera Wang or if the jeans are Seven. There have been times when I have told someone that I liked what they were wearing and they told me who it was designed by before they thanked me for the compliment. Personally, I really don’t care about designers too much. I typically wear a lot of Faded Glory (Walmart), Montego Bay (Payless) and Style & Co. (Macy’s). I know at least a few of you can relate. LOL However, instead of being so concerned about who we’re wearing that we pay hundreds of dollars to for the privilege of wearing their clothes, we need to be more concerned about wearing the who that has been given to us free of charge. Jesus was a gift to each of us that we didn’t have to pay for. God so loved us that He GAVE His only son to die for our sins. We didn’t have to pay a brown penny for redemption so we should flaunt it every day and wear it with pride. The scriptures above both start with words that connect them to the former verses. Therefore, I strongly urge you to read the scriptures that come before both of these. Had I printed all that I really needed to, they would have taken up the entire page. The scriptures before speak to our former way of living, our BC (Before Christ) days. We were doing things that some of us are now too embarrassed to talk about. However, when we accepted Jesus, we were made new and His desire is that we take on his qualities and attributes. When we clothe ourselves in Jesus, we don’t think about gratifying the flesh. When we clothe ourselves in Jesus, we begin to relate to others as He related to them - with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. These characteristics are what we should be putting on every morning before we reach for the Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren and Coach (ouch!) and before we spray that Flowerbomb. I encourage each of you to pray each morning for God to clothe you spiritually before you get clothed physically. This will certainly help you to deal with whatever satan brings your way because it’s definitely coming. It might even come before you leave the house so we must be prepared. Remember – Clothe yourself with Jesus before you put on your clothes!
