Thursday, boarded the Hop on Hop Off trolley with the intention of getting off and walking around the area of Armstrong Park. Near there is an area called Congo Circle. Interesting history. This is an area where African American slaves would gather on Sundays to visit, play music and dance. This is where much of the jazz and blues music is born. With Both the Spanish and French influence, Louisiana is VERY Catholic. Louisiana had some of the most liberal slave laws. Slaves had Sundays off. They could work on their time off, keep their money and actually buy their freedom.
