Thursday night I visited Glasbury Arts 11th Annual Arts - TopicsExpress

Thursday night I visited Glasbury Arts 11th Annual Arts Exhibition, which is being held in Glasbury Village Hall Thursday 30th October to Sunday 2nd November. I’ve been to visit the exhibition for the last few years and once again this years show has an amazing line-up! Well-known local and guest artists have come together to create a fantastic exhibition. There is a great diversity of work on show using many different mediums including watercolour, sculpture and ceramics. Amongst the artists exhibiting their work this year are John Darlison - Landscape Painter, Caitriona Cartwright - Stone Cutter and Carver, Dawn Cripps - Jeweller, Gail Stokes Hayward - Wire Sculptor, Hannah Firmin - Illustrator, Antonia Spowers - Scuptor, Isla Hampson -Photographer, Kate Freeman - Abstract Painter and also the A Level and GCSE work from the Gwernyfed High School students. The Glasbury Arts Society have put on a great show, the hall is warm, welcoming and laid out to show the art to its best advantage. There are plenty of members of the society on hand to explain and to help with any questions. A few things which particularly caught my eye were some amazing ‘Kensington Gardens Treescapes’ by the local photographer Mark Zytynski, which were so vibrant and looked beautiful displayed side by side. Another piece called ‘Woodpecker’ by Imogen Cripps stood out for me, the delicate drawing and the detail put into the small piece was incredible! In a small room at the back of the hall is a display of the GCSE and A Level from the students at Gwernyfed High School. This year this actually included my own A Level work. It is really encouraging for students to have a venue such as this and to be included with established artists. It felt like quite an achievement to see my own work on display. I received some very positive feedback on Gwernyfed’s contribution and was told that the students showed a very high level of ability, having being a pupil at Gwernyfed myself I can only credit the amazing art teachers at the school for all the help and encouragement. To have these exhibitions in our local area is a real bonus as it allows the community to see local talent, allows local artists to showcase their work, and inspires younger generations. Entry to the exhibition is free and is open for the last day tomorrow Sunday 2nd November at 11am – 5pm, so why not go on up to Glasbury Village Hall and enjoy the talent of our local artists and guests. And on top of all this you can get a glass of wine too! Nicole x
