Thursday song of the day: This Is What Rock N Roll Looks Like by Porcelain Black. Industrial-pop singer Porcelain Black calls herself the offspring of Marilyn Manson and Britney Spears, but to my ears at least, her music seems much more on the Britney side of things. Born Alaina Marie Beaton in Sterling Heights, Michigan, Porcelain Black signed to Virgin Records at the age of 18. She recorded under the name Porcelain and the Tramps, but Virgin would not release any of her music, wanting pure pop records instead of the industrial-pop. With Virgin refusing to release her music, she posted it digitally on Myspace, getting over 10 million hits in a few months. In addition, she wrote songs for other artists to get by. Eventually she left Virgin and signed with another label, which did release a few of her singles in 2011. This Is What Rock N Roll Looks Like was her first official single, and reached #44 on the dance chart. More disputes with the new record company followed, and her first album, titled Mannequin Factory is yet to be released, although two more singles came out in 2014, so there is still hope for an album release. I find this a catchy little tune that captures the attitude - if not the sound - of rock and roll pretty well. As mentioned, her industrial-pop seems to be more pop than industrial. Still, its a refreshing change from the Taylor Swifts and One Directions of the current music scene. I can live without the Lil Wayne sections of the song, but I still cant help liking it. Call it a guilty pleasure. youtube/watch?v=qKWDIm132fY youtube/watch?v=i9LCHgpzfxQ Tomorrow: Im not comin home.
