Thursdays public art dedication at Sunnycrest Elementary was truly special, made complete with student performances. Honored guests included Kent City Mayor Suzette Cooke (Sunnycrest is in Kent City boundaries), former FWPS board member Suzanne Smith and the artist,Stuart Nakamura of Seattle. The sculpture, titled River Reeds, is an 11-foot-high representation of a wetland environment designed with stainless steel, concrete and river stones. It fits well with Sunnycrest’s nature theme, which was part of the building’s new design when it opened in 2011. It was financed by the Washington State Art in Public Places program. Read more about it in the May 19 Communicator, located at fwps.org/newsletter/.
